Bovine Spongiform
Encephalopathy (BSE) or Mad Cow Disease has captured the attention
of the news media. Consumers are expressing concern as the media
reports only a small portion of the story. The United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Food Safety Inspection
Service (FSIS), along with other safety organizations have taken
precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our beef in the
United States. Additionally, there have been ongoing studies
to define the exact cause and nature mad cow disease. At this
time, there have not been any known cases of BSE in the United
States and continued steps are being taken to prevent BSE from
affecting the U.S.
