are a few of the resources
we have used in assembling
the information on the Health

this website, as well as others
that we feel you may wish
to know about.
PESTICIDES AND ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS
- www.foodnews.org
- This is one of the most
interesting sites we've
found. You can find the
average pesticide content
in water or your lunch.
You can check on a typical
day's diet or a typical
supermarket basket.
- e.hormone.tulane.edu
- This site covers environmental
estrogens and other hormones.
A great site published
by the Center for Bioenvironmental
Research of Tulane and
Xavier Universities in
New Orleans. You can learn
about the endocrine system
and its functions, glands,
hormones and target cells.
Environmental estrogens
vs. hormones are covered.
This site also publishes
Endocrine Disruptor News,
which will keep you up
to date and provides great
references, books and
reports.
- Contains a Shoppers'
Guide to Pesticides in
Produce. This site is
by the Environmental Working
Group (EWG), who also
produce foodnews.org (see
above). In chapter one,
you will find the best
and worst produce for
pesticide contaminations.
If you print all seven
tables, you will see which
produce contains the highest
carcinogen levels and
highest neurotoxin levels.
You can learn how to reduce
risk of carcinogens and
endocrine interrupters.
You may want to search
EWG's "Where you
live" and check out
the tap water in your
area.
- National Pesticide Information
Center. This site has
hundreds of pages of information
on dozens of pesticide
subjects. It is a co-op
effort between the EPA
and Oregon State University.
It also includes the Purdue
University Pesticide Programs,
and data from Cornell
University and the State
of California.

Information and Statistics
- A convenient source
of information on environmental
quality, status and trends.
Look up your home county.
- Agency for Toxic Substances
and Disease Registry -
This site provides good
information including
the top 275 hazardous
substances at hazardous
waste sites. Number one
on that list is arsenic,
which was used on tobacco
fields for years as a
pesticide.
ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE
- www.cdc.gov/narms/default.htm
- National Antimicrobial
Resistance Monitoring
System - This is a very
informative site, especially
for health care professionals
and people in the livestock
industry. The resistance
factor for antibiotics
is listed.
INFORMATION ON OTHER ISSUES
- www.beef.org
- This is a very complete
site showing many scientific
reports on all the issues
facing the beef industry.
There are good tips as
well as food safety information.
Additional information
on BSE, hormones, antibiotics,
etc. is also available.
Check out the meat safety
facts in the Food and
Nutrition News Section.
-This is a great source
of medical information.
- www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/app21/rtw/index.jsp
